Overview
Overview:
The Slave Dwelling Project hosts overnight stays where individuals are invited to join them by sleeping in and re-living the experience that slaves were subject to. In doing so, they hope to bring to light the important, and often unrepresented, role that slaves played in the history of the USA. In addition to their sleepover experiences, they also put on an annual conference to draw additional awareness to the preservation and history of slave dwellings.

Spud’s Thoughts:
If you are looking for a way to deeply empathize with the African-American experience, I’m a big fan of the work they are doing at the Slave Dwelling Project. On a visit to a plantation in South Carolina a little bit ago, I was shocked at how little attention was given to the history of the slaves. Our history books and historical sites often tell an incomplete story – take the time to immerse yourself in the overlooked aspects of this country’s history. I would recommend following their facebook page as that’s where I have found the most updated information about their work.
