Overview
Overview:
The altMBA is an online leadership and management workshop.
Founded in 2015 by bestselling author Seth Godin, the altMBA uses digital tools like Slack, WordPress and Zoom to engage more than 100 students in an intense four-week process. In 2016, students from 27 countries worldwide participated, with more students being added each session.
Each session of the workshop is led by a cadre of coaches, who engage with students in individual and group work. During the workshop, each student publishes the results of the 13 assigned projects on the public altMBA site. Over one session of the workshop, more than 50,000 messages were exchanged between students and coaches in Slack. The program is synchronous, with regular deadlines, group discussions, and face-to-face video calls. It is entirely based online, with students participating from their home or workplace.
The tuition for the program is $3,000. Attending students include managers and leaders at large organizations, as well as entrepreneurs and freelancers. We also invite rising leaders of important NGOs to participate. Represented brands include Kickstarter, Nike, Microsoft, Lululemon, PwC, Johnson & Johnson, Whole Foods, Coca-Cola, Hallmark, Chobani, The Red Cross, Sony, charity:water, and more.

Spud’s Thoughts:
I had a chance to chat with Seth Godin a few years ago for a video project I was working on exploring the future of education. Seth is one of those individuals who is not afraid to identify the ways in which old systems aren’t working anymore, and is quick to offer alternative solutions. I’ve had friends who have gone through this program and spoke highly of it. If you identify at all with the phrase ‘ruckus maker’ then I would highly encourage you to check this program out!
