MENTORSHIP

The Sullivan Foundation Alumni Mentoring Program is designed to engage alumni volunteers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Alumni will be paired for a full academic year (September to June) with a current student actively participating in Sullivan programming. Students are willing and eager to learn from others with more professional and personal experiences. The goal of the Foundation is to connect new students with alumni who will be able to share guidance and wisdom to create a lasting bond of friendship and mutual respect.

How it works:

Alumni will be directed to the alumni page on the Sullivan Foundation website. From there, alumni will be able to create or update their profile with contact information, personal bio, mentoring style preferences, and a short explanation of why they want to be a mentor to current students. Mentoring style preferences may include face-to-face mentoring, virtual mentoring, industry specific or overall life coach mentoring, as well as school preferences.

Students wishing to participate in the mentoring program will be directed to the Mentoring Program application on the Sullivan Foundation website. Once completed, student applications will be received and accepted as part of the program.

Once alumni have provided all necessary information to the Foundation, the Foundation staff will then review and pair mentors with current students who have applied to be a mentee, introducing them to each other and sharing short bios. We encourage mentors and mentees to connect on a regular basis, however, the frequency and form of communications are things that can be determined by the mentor and mentee. Throughout the year, we will offer tips on effective mentorship techniques, topics to discuss with students and suggested activities to connect.

Expectations:

It is expected that all mentors and mentees act in a professional manner and use this opportunity to learn and share professional and personal insight to topics important to the pair.
