Our primary objective at Baltimore Corps is to build equitable talent pipelines into Baltimore’s leadership, particularly throughout the social sector. We need more than a generation of leaders whose identities and experiences align with the communities they serve. That’s step one. The truth is, progress entails more than building more inclusive avenues into our city’s systems of influence. It also requires interrogating, challenging and fundamentally changing the way those systems operate.
The Baltimore Corps Fellowship, our flagship program, works toward this ideal. Each year, we recruit professionals from around the city, around the region, and around the country to work directly with the leaders at the forefront of Baltimore’s most impactful work. We place our Fellows with Visionary Cause Leaders in the nonprofit, public and private sectors to effect population-level change across focus areas including education, public health and workforce development. Beyond building capacity in individual organizations, Baltimore Corps Fellows come together over the course of an intensive yearlong program designed to:
- Increase understanding of equity and racial justice, and provide Fellows with the resources, training and tools to better combat inequity and disrupt structural racism
- Support the individual growth by providing customized opportunities and resources to support each Fellow’s professional development
- Create a lasting and collaborative network among Fellows and city leaders, as well as clear avenues to drive change during and after the Fellowship year

I’ve heard great things about this program! It popped up on my radar through a blog post that Ashoka shared, so you know it’s good 🙂 Over the past 10 years, I’ve been really fascinated with fellowship programs that focus on social change in a specific city – and Baltimore Corps has been one of the groups I’ve been inspired by, so definitely check em out!
